This was for neurodiversity celebration week which was an opportunity to learn about and value variation in how we each approach the world. SAPAC aims to use arts from the Indian subcontinent to contribute to equality, diversity and inclusion in society and we supported Dr Shivani Sharma – a Kathak dance artist based in Wiltshire – to use her passion for art, psychology and working with experts by experience to raise awareness of neurodiversity amongst a wide range of communities.
Art is a powerful mode of communication
This piece used the experiences of autistic people during the pandemic to highlight an important message that advocates for a social model of disability and includes a call to action.
What can we each do to reduce bias, challenge stereotypes and transform the everyday experiences of neurodivergent individuals? How can we celebrate and empower difference?
In participation with Arts Council England for providing project funding and we were proud to be able to capture the piece so powerfully.
