In October 2025 we successfully launched ScreenSwindon, a new Film Office supporting productions to source filming locations in the area, navigating permits and providing advice on local resources.

Marilyn has been leading on the new initiative and has welcomed the support from Creative England:

I am more than delighted to launch ScreenSwindon and want to thank Charlotte, Production Liaison Manager for the South West region and the team at Creative England for their sterling advice and support. We’ve already had lots of enquiries and it’s so great to have Swindon on the map

Charlotte Wood, Production Liaison Manager for the South West region at Creative England’s Filming in England team, added:

The South West region is highly collaborative in supporting filming and providing the film-friendly landscape required to attract inward investment and benefit from production activity. Swindon is an untapped area of the region and it’s been fantastic to work with Create Studios in partnership with Swindon Borough Council to spotlight Swindon further and open up positive economic opportunities and community engagement which facilitating filming on location brings. Launching a Film Office alongside the wider Create Studios BFI Places programme is perfect timing given the level of progress the region has made in forging strong industry relationships.

Swindon is well positioned one hour from London and just 40 minutes from the main South West filming production hub of Bristol along the central M4 corridor. The town has a wealth of industrial heritage, urban landscapes, period properties, green spaces and innovative high-tech buildings providing a wide range of locations to industry.

Creative England’s Filming in England team work with many different council set ups across the country, from Regional, City and Local Film Offices to District, Borough, County and sometimes even Parish Councils. Councils with strong buy-in from senior leadership teams and high levels of filming see the wider full financial benefits of local economic impact, job opportunities, and local services from facilitating a production in the area. As an example, productions filming on location bring a boost to the local economy with a major feature film spending around £187,000 per day and a high-end television drama spending £35,000 per day.

Swindon has already hosted several high-profile Bond movies from A View To A Kill (1984) with Roger Moore and The World is Not Enough (2000) with Piers Brosnan performing an action sequence inside the innovatively designed former Motorola building.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, reflects on the 007 visits and further opportunities filming will bring to the town:

Swindon has plenty to show off and has always been worthy of the big screen – some of its landmarks featured in a couple of 007 productions, and it’s got plenty more scenic locations to offer. The launch of ScreenSwindon isn’t just an opportunity to bring more of Swindon to the big screen, but also a chance to attract more jobs and investments to the town, offering career opportunities to residents and custom to local businesses. We look forward to working with Create Studios and Creative England to make all that and more happen.

The launch of ScreenSwindon spotlights the area to industry, adds a much needed production service to Wiltshire and creates further opportunities within the local area.
