We were approached by Prime Theatre to help create an educational resource called ‘This is When’.
This is When…is a new, free to access, digital workshop for secondary schools. Created in consultation with young people and teachers, it provides a framework to explore the issue of violence against women and girls in a productive and inclusive way within the classroom.
As they progress through the website, classes meet three young people who have experienced violence in different ways. After watching each short film, students are guided through a series of discussion prompts and activities to help them unpick what they have seen and identify their own role in preventing violence against women and girls.
Sarah Butcher led the workshops and wrote the 3 scripts following 3 characters’ experiences and Gurch co-directed the piece. We held auditions online and in person over 3 days to cast the main 6 roles for each film. The work has been already trialled at local students and the responses for the students clearly demonstrates our art for informative pieces and handling sensitive content.
