REFUGEE WEEK FILM FESTIVAL
We’re delighted to be featuring as part of Refugee Week this year, screening the brilliant Dreamers and short film, Aziza. This year’s theme explores courage, and how vital it is to face unknown journeys, learn new languages, navigate unfamiliar systems, or simply to wake up each morning and step into an uncertain world.
Dreamers follows Isio, a Nigerian migrant who sees her freedom threatened after being placed in a UK immigration removal centre. Within confinement, she finds connection with another woman, and together they begin to imagine a future beyond the fences. Dreamers is a powerful story of resilience, solidarity, and love in the face of institutional control.
Soudade Kaadan’s short film, Aziza, follows Ayman, a Syrian refugee in Lebanon, as he teaches his wife to drive—their car being the last remaining piece of home. What begins as a simple lesson transforms into a surreal and emotional journey through memory, longing, and displacement.
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary — past and present.
Proceeds from this screening will be donated to local charities, including The Harbour Project and City of Sanctuary, who help foster community and safety for refugees living in Swindon.
