Exciting things are happening in Swindon's Railway Village at the moment. New investment is enabling neglected buildings to be repurposed and refurbished. Historic England have made the area a Heritage Action Zone.

Over the next 4 years they will work with Swindon Borough Council and other organisations on a Regeneration Masterplan to revitalise the wider area.

For Heritage Open Day 2020, Historic England and The Mechanics Institute Trust commissioned this film of Swindon's Railway Village including a virtual tour of the newly refurbished Pattern Church.

"I just wanted to thank you for the huge effort you all made in order to create the Heritage Open Day film in such a short time. I am so happy with what you have produced, it is exactly what I had hoped for and will be so helpful to promote the Heritage Action Zone over the next four years. I have also had such positive feedback from all the other stakeholders. Looking forward to hopefully to working with you again in the future"

Karen Phimister, Heritage Action Zone, Swindon Borough Council.

As you can see Swindon has a rich and unusual industrial history which is worth well exploring. You can take a self guided tour of the Village and the Works area using this map which you can download from the Heritage Open Day website.

Then come back next year to see inside the buildings!
