In response to the impact of COVID-19 on the community and the production industry, Create Studios have been working consciously to ensure great productions continue safely.
Our response to global changes
It’s been essential to stay connected and keep hope circulating, we have been able to do this by sharing our current projects and exciting news for the future. We want everyone working with us to feel just as hopeful about future projects and visions coming to life, as we do. Create Studios’ priority is still to provide great productions, however, we are taking the necessary precautions to keep our staff and clients safe and healthy. Despite all the uncertainty, the team has shown consistently how with collaboration, agility and resilience, we can push past challenges and deliver productions with purpose.
We continue to have the Create Studios’ community at the centre of what we do, orbiting through different mediums. The production sphere, capturing stories with the best quality and authenticity that comes from truly understanding the needs of our clients. Through the digital sphere, using social media to keep our clients updated on current projects along with information on how we are contributing to meaningful change, from providing opportunities for young people, hosting virtual events, mentoring and more. We are proud to have been recognised for our social impact as part of the good news case study in Swindon’s Social Enterprise Network and our assessment as “outstanding” by Arts Council England for supporting diverse new talent into the Creative Industries.
We have had the privilege of working with the likes of Zurich community trust, Chelsea Football Club, The NHS, National Trust, amongst other well-established brands and organisations. Create Studios composes productions with all the elements needed to make a film visually engaging using cutting edge equipment, cinematic techniques and animations. Our standard to listen, reflect and create gives us an eye for intimate details, it’s in these details we capture the true heart of our clients and go beyond the visuals and straight to the heart.
Investing in young people
Our young people have so much potential and nurturing their talents is one of our proudest investments. Create Studios are bridging young creatives into their first paid roles as well as providing educational resources, weekly production workshops and a new Summer school to get young people inspired and involved. Most recently due to the government's Kickstart Scheme, we have welcomed two 21-24 year old go-getters to our team in the following roles: Production Assistant and IT support.
The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit. This funding is designed to give businesses willing to invest in young people the help to do so. The pandemic has heavily impacted the job market with detrimental effects on students fresh out of University or those looking for their first professional role. Now is the time to support our young people. Not only have we been able to create social impact with the help of the scheme, Create Studios have greatly benefited from welcoming fresh ideas and a variety of perspectives needed for a business to truly thrive and serve their clients. Join us in supporting our young people and sign up for the kickstart Scheme. Find out more on the GOV.UK website.
Create Futures, our mentoring program supported by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, is for local media graduates and has been particularly successful. Many of our young people have gone on to work in their dream roles for national broadcasters and independent producers; from helping to produce Netflix documentaries, working as content producers, editors, production coordinators and many more interesting roles. We understand it takes a community to support our young people into the Creative Industries so we are always looking to collaborate with organisations and individuals with a similar mission.
Growing the team
Arts Council England and DCMS have seen the growing potential of Create Studios and opened up the opportunity for our development through The Culture Recovery Fund. As a result of this funding, we have been able to make the necessary changes needed to propel us forward. We have employed new talent in our film and animation production team supported by new advanced filmmaking gear to keep us on the road. We have also welcomed more freelance staff and young people eager to learn. Our Mission is to provide an accessible and welcoming place to nurture new talent. We now have more resources and team members to ensure everyone who works with us feels that they not only have been given the room to develop their expertise but are directly contributing to the betterment of Create Studios.
Working with Esther Schmidt, the Children's Commissioning Lead for NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire was a delight, here’s what she had to say about working with us.
“Create Studios are a pleasure to work with and have the unique ability to visually simplify complicated storytelling to help you target audiences with really engaging content. They don’t just bring your story to life, they create and use carefully selected media, to enhance and enrich those stories.”
- Esther Schmidt
Since the start of the new year, we have been joined by a new Marketing Lead, Account Manager, Production Manager Apprentice, and Heritage and Outreach Producer. Our new team members have come with dynamic thinking and a variety of skills and abilities, such as entrepreneurial spirit bringing us more original ideas, analytical skills, project management and a range of experience working for globally recognised brands such as Google, Chelsea FC and National Trust. All of our team members have the creativity to bring visions to life with the business acumen to ensure everything runs smoothly for our clients. With more hands-on-deck, everyone has been able to direct their focus entirely on their area of expertise with a mutual goal in mind. This has accelerated Create Studios like never before, providing a space for everyone to thrive and tell their part of our story.
We are adapting to the reality of 2021 and making continuous investments towards the future including an exciting new bespoke studio and training venue within Swindon’s Heritage Action Zone, whilst shaping Swindon’s emerging plans for a new Cultural Quarter, and supporting the new Swindon and Wilts Institute of Technology.
Despite the challenges we have all faced over the past 12 months, Create Studios have not only survived but thrived and elevated. We anticipate another year full of achievements, further developments and meeting our new team members in person! We look forward to embarking on new projects and telling more impactful stories with the anticipation of expanding our reach and support through national and international partnerships.
