This film, for Swindon Cultural Showcase, The Uncelebrated Journey was inspired by the life and poetry of Alfred Williams, a polymath and philosopher who began his working life at Great Western Railway works.
Alfred was a figure held in great affection by local heritage enthusiasts but his extra-ordinary life was less widely known. The team at Create were commissioned to make two art films to open and close the gala showcase event, and were captured by this fascinating figure who had been alive during the First World War, where he served and fell in love with India.
The films touched on this part of his life whilst being grounded in the Wiltshire landscape he loved.
We captured drone footage and brought very contemporary production approaches to sharing this timeless story.
Alfred's poetry weaves through both films, as does his love for his wife, his huge passion and vision for the town he returned to and called home.
"The team at Create produced films with such sensitivity and beauty. We were overwhelmed at seeing the passion of the pieces and how they reflected the spirit of the Alfred Williams story."
Nicky Alberry, High Sheriff of Wiltshire 2018-19
