Digital Journeys celebrates the diversity of experience and the shared aspiration which shapes Swindon in the 175 anniversary year. Supported by an Arts Council England Grants for the Arts Lottery award, Digital Journeys draws together six months of digital arts activity with 150 people aged 9 – 90, seen by over 20,000 visitors through touring exhibitions in Spring 2015.
The Digital Journeys project and exhibition has been at the heart of Create Studios’ latest programme of work supported by Arts Council England. A new film, IPad tool and interactive installation were showcased at STEAM ahead of a touring exhibition in Summer 2016. The exhibition at STEAM also featured an installation by Swindon and Gloucester based Squid soup whose works have toured internationally and made their Swindon debut at the heart of Digital Journeys. Thanks to all our partners and supporters including: ACE, Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, Wiltshire Community Foundation, Prime Theatre, Impact Fund and Squid Soup
Business and local government leaders from Swindon’s Influence group contributed their stories and a diverse range of interviewees also feature in a new film directed by Swindon filmmaker and Create Associate, Gurchetan Singh.
East Wichel School
Pupils from East Wichel School undertook a Big Write on the theme of Swindon 175 by thinking about people and places important to them. Beautiful painted mind maps portrayed their wishes for the future and featured in the Digital Journeys IPad installation within the touring exhibition.
Create Associates, Sherylee Houssein and Elmar Rubio, led a series of workshops to capture Digital Journeys stories ranging from newly arrived refugees from the Harbour project to those whose families had worked for generations at Brunel’s Railway woks, the anniversary of which has inspired the Swindon175 celebrations.
People who attend the Harbour project want to integrate and build their futures in Swindon. The Digital Journeys project has helped them to share their experiences but also feel part of a wider Swindon story that includes everyone.
